Auckland Sling Walk, presented by My Natural Baby

Saturday 8th October, 11am
Join us at the eighth annual Auckland Sling Walk, proudly presented by My Natural Baby, celebrating New Zealand and International Babywearing Week.
Meet us at Britomart (look for the My Natural Baby and New Zealand Babywearing Week banners, or failing that, the large gaggle of people with children in carriers…;) ).

11am Register and get your lucky number for the prize draws at the end.

11:20am You’ll want to be there to see, or join in with Kangatraining West and Central Auckland, as they kick of the Auckland Sling Walk with a couple of fabulous numbers.

Then: We’ll walk the Viaduct finishing in Wynyard Quarter by the play area, where the kids can play and the adults can catch the prize draws and pat the pretty carriers around the place (my favourite part!).

Kangatraining West Auckland Charity Fundraiser Class

Sunday 2nd October, 10am, West Wave Recreation Centre

Come join Kangatraining West Auckland at West Wave Pool, Henderson, for a dance or two. Gold coin donation for entry with all money going to Mother’s Helper. There will be guest instructors and also be spot prizes and raffle tickets for sale (raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20).

South-East Slingbabies Babywearing Week Coffee Group Walk and Kangatraining Fun

Wednesday 5th October, 10am – 1pm

Snakes & Ladders Park, 38 Bramley Dr, Farm Cove.

It’s our favourite time of year again – New Zealand Babywearing Week! So we’re gonna switch up our regular coffee group!

Let’s meet at Snakes and Ladders Park in Farm Cove at 10am. Kangatraining East Auckland will be holding a free Kanga class, then we will wander along the Rotary Walkway strutting our babywearing stuff! Then we’ll finish off at The Burbs Cafe for lunch/coffee/deliciousness. Invite your friends – let’s have a great time connecting our community.

If you don’t have a carrier, or have a friend who doesn’t have one, don’t worry! Our library will be available for use on the day completely free of charge. Great opportunity to try something different too!

There will be some cool prizes to give away, and some exclusive discount offers too, in case you needed extra incentive!

Little Sprouts Babywearing Week Giving Day

Wednesday 5th October, 10:30-12noon

MAMA Maternity, 13 Coyle St, Sandringham

Babywearing With Jess and MAMA Maternity are putting on a carrier help day, to raise more support for the charity supporting babies, Little Sprouts. Come along with a quality used baby item to donate to Little Sprouts, and in exchenage, get help fitting your carrier or sling, or try on a range of slings, wraps and carriers from Jess’ carrier library or the MAMA Maternity shop.

Jess will be at MAMA from 10:30am-12pm but you can drop off items all day until MAMA closes at 5pm.

There will be a few small prizes and giveaways at 11am 😉

Friday 7th October, 11am

The Coromandel and Whitianga Sling Library are holding a walk, to be followed by a picnic on Friday 7th October in Whitianga. Starting at 11 am (meeting at Buffalo Beach), walking through town to Soldiers Memorial Park for a picnic, babywearing demonstrations with different types of carriers, spot prizes, a chance to meet new people and check out the library! Bring a picnic lunch, carriers will also be available to borrow and try out and/or hire on the day.

Back Carry Workshop

Saturday 1st October, 10am-12pm

Back room, Parents Place, Boundry Rd, Hamilton

Are you wanting to learn how to get your child into a back carry? Or perfect the carry you are already doing? Bring along your SSC, Mei Tai or woven wrap and learn how to use it on your back.

Your child must be sitting independently to back carry in a SSC, and you must be confident using a woven wrap or Mei Tai on your front before you use it on your back.

Shelley from Up-a-bubba Babywearing Consultant will be with us help you master your carries too.

Spaces are limited, please PM us to reserve a spot.

The cost is $20 per person, and includes tea/coffee and a light morning tea.

Picnic and Combined Carrier Stash Photo

Sunday 2nd October, 2pm-3.30pm

Claudelands Park, Hamilton

Bring a picnic rug, some afternoon tea, and your carriers! Doesn’t matter if you have 1 carrier or 10, we want to put everyone’s carriers together for the ultimate carrier stash pic!
We will hopefully meet in/by one of the gazebos, but if they are occupied then we’ll just be on the grass.

The whole family is welcome, and if you don’t know anyone, then come along and meet some other friendly babywearers!

How is your babywearing knowledge? Whether you know lots, or not much, come and have a bit of fun with our Babywearing quiz! We will also have a couple of “practical” questions if you are keen to get hands on!

Babywearing Walk and Games

Saturday 8 October, 10am-12pm

Hamilton Gardens

We are meeting at the Hamilton Gardens, Gate 2, by the old playground (currently under construction) at 10am.

We will head off for our walk around Turtle Lake at 10.15am (it’s a short walk, suitable for small kids), then head back to the grassy area to the right of the playground, in amongst the rose gardens, where we will have some babywearing games.

Bring a picnic rug to sit on and some morning tea/lunch too!

The whole family is welcome to attend, bring scooters/bikes for the kids, prams, and of course your carrier! Bring a carrier or scarf for the kids to use too as we will have some games for them to carry a balloon or teddy.

Mount Maunganui Walk

Meet outside the surf club for a leisurely walk around the Mount, followed by a play at the beach afterwards.

Meet just inside the gates at 10am & we will explore the park together then have a BYO picnic lunch.

We would like to invite all Babywearing Tauranga members to join us for a picnic BBQ.

On the 8th we will have a family friendly babywearing walk along the lake front, using Lion’s Walk. We will start from the end of 2 Mile Bay, walk to Wharewaka for a sausage sizzle (gold coin), before walking back. Fortnightly Sling Meet

Tuesday 4th October, 10am – 12pm

Heretaunga Women’s Centre, Corner Russel and Eastbourne Streets, Hastings

We will be in the nursery room at Heretaunga Women’s Centre in central Hastings, through the front door, straight ahead, follow hallway down past the toilets.

Come along to try out the carriers in the library (check out the library photo album to see what we have), get help with adjusting your own carrier or just to sit and have a chat about babywearing and mummy matters. As the library is getting more popular we have put the following in place:
• If you would like to hire a carrier please comment on this event to reserve it.
• Reserves will be done on a first in first served basis and if more than one wants the same carrier I will start a waiting list for the following meet.
• Carriers will be able to be taken after 11:30, this will give those a chance that want to compare a few to do so before they disappear on hire.
We would appreciate a koha (no more the $5) to help cover venue hire.

NZBW2016 Trail Walk 

Mount Holdsworth, Masterton

Sunday 2nd October 2016

Babywearing Wairarapa’s first event for NZBW16 is a trail walk at our local Mount Holdsworth. We will meet at the wooden covered picnic bench next to the car park at 11am, the walk to Donelly flats and back is a gentle bush walk with lots for the little ones to look at, talk about, and touch. We will then lay out our blankets back at the picnic area for a relaxed lunch together.

NZBW16 Stash Picnic 

Carrington Park, Carterton

Wednesday October 5th 2016, 12pm

Bring along a picnic blanket, and a basket full of goodies for lunch. Come and share your stash with us.

Scavenger Hunt

Queen Elizabeth Park, Masterton

Saturday October 8th 2016, 10am

Pre-Register on our event page by Wednesday 5th October.

Come along and meet us at the entrance of  Kids’ Own Playground at Queen Elizabeth Park to find your team and collect your instructions to start the hunt. You have 1 hour to solve as many  of the clues as possible and meet back at the start point with your evidence of either a photo or an item from each clue. We will then tally up your points. You will be in to win some awesome prizes.

RULES: You must be wearing your child for as much of the hunt as possible and HAVE FUN!

Annual Slingwalk (Frank Kitts Park to Southern Cross)

Sunday 2 October, 10am – 12pm

Meet at Frank Kitts Park from 9.45am, goodie bags for the first 25 families to arrive and sign in. Walk leaving at 10am, heading up through the city to meet at the Southern Cross. Spot prizes drawn at 11am at the Southern Cross. You must be signed in and participating in the walk to be in the draw. Babywearing is not compulsory to participate in the walk.

Prizes include carriers! Boba 4g, Manduca, Hana stretchy wrap, Standard tula mesh, Kokoro ring sling.
